FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 8 -- LaserBoard™, the 1000-member Macintosh user group of New York
City, is pleased to announce its expansion into the Pennsylvania, Ohio,
and West Virginia tri-state region. Since early 1986, LaserBoard has been
based in Manhattan and has grown from a one-line bulletin board system
into one of the largest Macintosh user groups in the country.
The well known LaserBoard Bulletin Board System, with 140MB of shareware
and freeware file storage capability and 9600 bps access via a USR
Courier HST, has been duplicated and will be run simultaneously in New
York and Pittsburgh. The new access number in New York is 212-397-0729,
and will be available starting June 10. The new access number in
Pittsburgh is 412-521-8646, and will be available starting June 14. Both
services are running the newest version of Scott Watson's Red Ryder Host
and offer message threading, 1K Block XMODEM file transfers, 9600 baud
access, and thirty minutes of free access per day.
LaserBoard will continue to have $18 annual dues, a low cost obtained
through the use of completely electronic methods of information
distribution. "LaserBoard is one of the only Mac user groups in the
country without a printed newsletter," said chairman Stuart Gitlow, MD.
"Not only can we provide information to our members more rapidly by
electronic means, but the mailing and printing costs that we save have
enabled us to keep dues to a minimum," he added.
LaserBoard, a member of the Apple User Group connection, offers its
members discounts on AppleCare via local dealers, system software
upgrades via both electronic and disk-based methods, a powerful disk
library available to members at $4 for each 800K disk, free shipping from
MacConnection, and discounts on major Macintosh magazines. LaserBoard
also provides a folder for the use of its members on the Connect network,
accessible via MacNET software.
Further information regarding LaserBoard is available from either of the
two bulletin boards listed above, or at 5621 Melvin Street, Pittsburgh,
Penn. 15217
